Rainbows, browns and Snake River Cutthroat along with suckers, carp and walleye call the Miracle Mile home. The Mile trout population is roughly 50:50 rainbows and brown trout. Good numbers of resident trout are in the river year-round, but there are also large numbers of both migratory rainbows and browns from Pathfinder Reservoir.

Grey Reef/Miracle Mile River Report Latest Update: 12/20/2023 Current Streamflow : 498 cfs @ Grey Reef, 538 cfs @ Miracle Mile The flows on both the Miracle Mile and Grey Reef have reached their winter flows, and most likely won't fluctuate until the spring. Both sections of river will remain around 500-600 cfs through the colder months.

The "Mile" as it is commonly known, is actually 5 to 8+ miles long depending on the level of Pathfinder Reservoir.

The Miracle Mile actually varies from 5.5 miles to 15 miles depending on the water levels in Pathfinder Reservoir. It is the largest continuous section of public water on the North Platte other than the section through the Medicine Bow National Forest.

Many say that Grey Reef fly fishing is what the Bighorn and San Juan were like 15 years ago. This is the most productive and consistent stretch for large trout on the North Platte River. The upper 12 miles of the Grey Reef has over 8000 fish per mile with an average of 16-19 inches. You can see why American Angler Magazine named the Grey Reef.
